As festival season gets underway, we profile the people behind four of the biggest and coolest events —and get their tips on making the most of each of them.

“Pearl and I started a night at a shack on Baga Beach called Zanzibar in 2003, and it began to establish a bit of a reputation. So when Shailendra and Harindra Singh at Percept decided to launch a festival in Goa in 2005. they got in touch, saying: Well back you, and help you bring in DJs from around the world. We couldnt believe our luck.

The response has been amazing. Weve had some of the biggest names in dance music at the festival: Axwell, Armin van Buuren, Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk. International DJs love playing here because the dance music scene has plateaued in the West, so they dont see the sheer joy, the jumping around, that goes on at our event back home any more. The fact that the festival takes place on a beach in the middle of the European winter doesnt hurt our cause either!

This year is our fifth anniversary, and were going from four to seven stages. We had over 45,000 people at our 2010 event: were hoping to better that this year. Weve also got some incredible acts lined up —for me, Pete Tong and Above & Beyond will be the highlights. Its a dream come true for us to be part of something like this.” NIKHILS INSIDER TIP “Come early: Day One is always my favourite day. Its less crowded, and the vibe is still really fresh. Our after – parties are also pretty legendary. Theyre ticketed separately, so bag a ticket early.”
