Europe
Where to Travel in Portugal
0Europe has always become one of the choices for the people whenever they want to have vacation. Well, actually, such desire of the people is quite reasonable by considering the fact that there are so many amazing things that can be found in Europe. For addition, there are so many countries in Europe which have their own attractions. Well, of course, it is totally impossible to mention all of those countries including the reasons why you should go there.
Valentine’s Break in Edinburgh
0Edinburgh is a popular choice for city breaks all year round, but occasions such as Valentine’s Day see more people heading to Scotland’s majestic capital to enjoy romantic getaways. Edinburgh is easily accessible by road, rail and flights, and as a stepping stone to the Highlands and the natural beauty of Scotland, it can also be the starting point for longer excursions in this remarkable country.
That’s not to overlook Edinburgh‘s own inherent charms of course, as the colourful history of this significant city can be seen everywhere you look in the Old Town and New Town of Edinburgh’s compact city centre. Most of the city’s leading attractions are within easy walking distance of each other – as long as you don’t mind hills – and the top sites can usually be relied on to offer exclusive packages for Valentine’s visitors, sometimes in unlikely places.
This may include Edinburgh Castle itself, the city’s most visited location and an iconic feature of its skyline, and nearby buildings of significance in the Old Town and along the cobbled Royal Mile, including popular restaurants such as the Witchery that offers special Valentine’s meals for couples and people on dates. It’s advisable to book ahead if you’re hoping to dine in one of Edinburgh’s leading eateries though, as you can be sure many other people have had the same idea for treating their partner on the special occasion. Seville, Spain
0Seville is located in the southwest of Spain and is the capital of Andalusia. With the River Guadalquivir bisecting the city, Seville
is the cultural, business, political and artistic capital of southern Spain.
Being over 2000 years old, Seville is full of well-preserved history from its many periods. Beginning with the Roman period, there are many ruins to be found in and out of the city. There is a Roman aqueduct as well as the remains of Italica, 5 miles outside of the city and displaying evidence of what life in Seville was like in Roman times.
There is also much Moorish influence throughout Seville. The Gothic Cathedral of Seville, built from 1401-1519, was built on the site of a Moorish mosque, and the Giralda minaret was converted to a bell tower and is one of the most famous monuments in the city. The enormous Cathedral is one of the largest Gothic and medieval cathedrals in existence, and features a stunning gilded interior and also has the longest nave in Spain. (more…)
Holidays in Fuerteventura
0The second largest of the Canary Islands and graced with 152 beaches of either fine white sand or black volcanic shingle, the island of Fuerteventura has become a Mecca for sun, beach, and most importantly, watersport enthusiasts.
Located just off the coast of North Africa and boasting the longest beaches in the archipelago, the island has a warm climate which translates into fairly constant year-round water temperatures. Perfect for lovers of sun, sand and sea, it’s no surprise that family holidays to Fuerteventura are more popular than ever.
With its strong winds and variety of water conditions, the island is often filled with eager surfers, windsurfers and kiteboarders, whether beginners or seasoned pros. The best time for surfers to test their skills is during the autumn and winter months when the beaches aren’t as crowded but the water is cooler, and there are plenty of unspoilt spots to ride the waves. Punta Elena in Corralejo is one of the island’s most popular surf spots, as is the nearby Shooting Gallery, and the small fishing village of Majanicho is also popular with windsurfers. For absolute beginners, the island has a number of surf schools with experienced teachers. (more…)

Northern Ireland History
0To fully understand Northern Ireland’s history it is necessary to go back to the year 1920. Due to continued unrest at the British presence in Ireland, the British government finally decided they had had enough. Lloyd George’ government passed a parliamentary act known as the better Government for Ireland Act.
Lloyd George made it very clear to those who represented the Irish people that he would not compromise on either partition or military concessions. Eamonn de Valera the main representative of the Irish people rejected these terms completely and returned back to the Irish parliament known as the Dail. Both sides did however agree to continue talks.
Eamon de Valera knowing any negotiations would be fruitless did not return to the actual negotiations. He did however send a four-man commission. This commission accepted Lloyd George terms on the grounds that they were the best that they could hope for. This treaty instantly split the Sinn Fein movement and De Valera and his supporters walked out of the Dail protesting strongly against its ratification. This split eventually resulted in a full blown civil war. The violence that followed was as brutal as anything that had gone on in Ireland’s history. (more…)
